Get to know our staff over a coffee, find out a little more about their work life, what they do, and maybe a few added extras that you wouldn’t think to ask. If you have any questions that you’d like answered next time, let us know in the comments below… This week we’re speaking to Jenna Clarke, Business Development Manager at Avenue HQ.

First things first, what’s your name?

Jenna Clarke

Company role?

Business Development Manager (BDM)

Now, what does that actually mean?

As BDM my job is to spread the word about Avenue HQ in person. To attract people to hold events with us at our AHQ and hospitality venues and develop corporate partnerships. Basically to build that rapport with different companies and different people. So day-to-day I’ll do things like build quotes for events, give tours to clients, have meetings and talk through the needs of businesses looking to host an event. Last week I went to a lot of networking events, and just talked to people. I love talking to people, that’s one of the main things I love about being a BDM. So overall just getting to know everyone really – building relationships with other hospitality venues as well. I can pass bookings on to them, they can pass bookings to me, building mutually beneficial relationships.

What’s your favourite space to hold an event in?

So, my favourite space has got to be The Rooftop at East Parade (Leeds). I love it because it’s really unique. Guests can select their own private password, and their guests can then go up to a secret rooftop bar. It holds up to about 60 people. It’s got its own fully serviced bar with Pimms on draught. We can do barbecues, we can do buffets, we can do canapés. It’s got the best views over the city, that I’ve seen in the whole of Leeds. So I absolutely love having events there.

Out of all the events you’ve done, who did you love hosting?

One of the best events we’ve ever thrown was for Professional Security. They were a booking that came out the blue, a couple of weeks beforehand. They wanted to book the Rooftop, with barbecue and drinks and I didn’t realise until on the day, that it was Professional Security’s bouncers and their senior team. They had an amazing night. And even though it rained, they danced and they loved the barbecue. They interacted with the staff and were really lovely to host. They brought their own DJ, who was serving up RnB and Hip Hop vibes. I honestly think they really took advantage of that space, and used it to its full potential, and the weather didn’t stop them. It was really great to see The Rooftop in full swing, with all the best elements. Great music, great food, great drinks and people just having a brilliant time.

What do you hope to achieve in the coming months?

I hope to develop our relationships with the businesses that frequently use our spaces across both Leeds’ and Liverpool. I can’t wait for Mann Island Social to take off as it’s a really versatile space. People can have sit down meals, which is something we haven’t been able to offer for parties. It’s such a large venue and there’s so much we can do with it. It’s our biggest Social and right on the Liverpool waterfront, so a great venue for all types of events.

Who would be your dream guest for a party?

Jonathan Cheban. Who most people think is just Kim Kardashian’s best friend. But his reality TV series, back in the early 2000’s, called the Spin Crowd, was initially what inspired me to want to study PR. It was the first thing that got me into studying it at university. And he’s also the Food God. He knows a lot about food, just as much of a passion for food as I do, so I think we’d have a really good time.

What keeps your energy up for late night events?

A good cup of tea, and some upbeat music. I love Lizzo at the moment, she’s all about the ‘you can do it’ attitude. Or I will go to the gym. The gym gives me more energy than anything else!
